Peggy’s Spotlight

“The event’s mission is to shine a light on homegrown talent giving them a chance to shine on a stage that feels like home…”– Iulia Teodora Matei, Leftlion

We’re back for another Spotlight event, welcoming early-career musicians to the stage! This month, we’re excited to welcome back Ade Anifowose Quartet playing an eclectic set, journeying through afro-cuban, traditional swung jazz and brazilian samba styles and Kai Kinsley trio, who seeks to explore new ways of interpreting standard jazz repertoire with a contemporary voice.

Ade Anifowose Quartet

Ade Anifowose is a drummer currently studying Music at the University of Nottingham. As a way of bringing his artistic vision and material to life for his end of year recital in June 2025, he formed a trio recruiting Lucas Walters on piano and Simon Paterson on bass to play alongside him. Together, they played an eclectic set of music, journeying through afro-cuban, traditional swung jazz and brazilian samba styles.

With an affinity for music’s unique storytelling qualities, Ade always seeks to arrange a compelling set of music that leaves its mark on the audience. A highlight from the trio’s June performance was Duke Ellington’s “Caravan” reimagined by Ade, that captured its melancholic vibe in an exciting syncopated afro-cuban style. After having a successful Spotlight performance last November this trio aims to continue with their music making, experimenting with new compositions to effectively put on a great show, and will next feature Arjun Chandrasekar on the saxophone.

Line up
